Jamaica

Author: Sharon Mahoney

Jamaica originally called ‘Xymaca’ is known as the land of wood and water, many waterfalls, beaches, green life, and mountain Ranges make Jamaica the amazing spectacle that is Jamaica. The Parish of Portland along the north east coast of the island, as far as I am concerned is the prettiest place in the island. In Port Antonio you have the Blue Lagoon where the film was made of the same name, the Lagoon will mesmerise you as you stare into the blue water that has no end. Apparently a few movies have been used as location in this part of the island.

Kingston the capital city of Jamaica in the parish of St Andrews, it is a busy town like many others. Colourful with people caught up in the hustle and bustle of life. Crammed with noisy vehicles, street sellers haggling to sell their goods and shops selling any and everything you may require. Kingston has many places of interest to such as Hope Gardens, the National Museum and the Bob Marley Museum remember Jamaica is the country of reggae music, and Bob Marley’s home town.

If you want to chill and relax take a picnic out to Lime Cay, a cay just off shore from Port Royal accessed by boat and relax on the beach or take a walk downtown Kingston, Ocean Boulevard. Or even try the Emancipation Park situated in New Kingston the new home to a controversial statute, sit on a bench and inhale Jamaica!
